My first introduction to birth was reading Spiritual Midwifery when i was a teenager. This book sparked my journey of helping and supporting women and babies as well as the way I felt about my own births. A mother to 2 grown sons, both born naturally, one at home, I have  been supporting women and their famiies for over 18 years and have seen many babies grow up in my community.  I am committed to helping women have the birth experience they desire, as well as support families in the postpartum period. As a sacred artist and birth counselor, I facilitate workshops for women  who want to move forward from a negative birth, as well as deepen their pregnancy experience.

Tara Schatzel is a DONA trained Birth Doula and Postpartum Doula (Maternity Wise) and ICEA  trained Childbirth Educator.
                                             
Supporting  women during their births  for over 10 years with continuous emotional, physical and informational support, Tara feels that she can help families have the birth experience they desire. Following her passion leads her to study Hypnosis for Labor and Birth ,and specialized comfort techniques for Labor and Birth taught by a Massage Therapist/Midwife. Michelle 'Kricket' Nacy is an ALACE/toLabor trained birth doula and a certified HypnoBirthing® Practitioner. Michelle realized her passion after giving birth to her two children; "I'd heard so many negative stories about birth, and mine were so beautiful, I felt compelled to help others have a better experience." Michelle loves to work with women to help them discover their own birthing wisdom and create the birth they desire. Michelle offers group and private HypnoBirthing® Childbirth classes and doula services in the Hudson Valley. Johanna D’Aleo CD(DONA), HBE is an experienced labor and postpartum doula, certified HypnoBirthing Educator and trained childbirth educator offering doula support, private and group classes in the Hudson Valley and Albany area. She also offers bellycasting and placenta dehydration /encapsulation.Johanna is also DONA certified in the use of a TENS unit during labor.

Johanna’s interest in childbirth began with the home birth of her first child. She decided to train as a doula in time for the birth of her granddaughter. She is passionate about providing continuous birth doula support to women and their partners. Johanna believes that birth can be a very empowering experience with doula support greatly increasing the likelihood of a positive birth experience and memory.

Antonia Kannengiesser is a Birth Doula, a DONA Certified Postpartum Doula, and a Certified Lactation Counselor. She became fascinated with birth and the postpartum period after the births of her own children. She considers herself lucky to have had two incredible birth experiences and wants to help other women have the same! Antonia has a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders but left her job as a Special Educator to concentrate on her children and her new passion for all things "Doula". She provides expecting families with consistent, compassionate support during their labor, birth and postpartum period. Respecting the power of birth, she wants to help women and their partners strengthen their trust, not only in themselves, but also in the natural process and empowerment of birth. Feeling that this is truly the work she was meant to do, she looks forward to making each family's experience as special and unique as they are. I became interested in birth when I happened upon the book Spiritual Midwifery. What struck me was all the stories of other women helping the birthing woman, not just as midwives, but as friends and partners through emotional support, gentle touching, and encouraging words. I wanted more mothers to benefit from having in-touch women around them during their births. I immediately felt called to be one of these "birthing friends" and found out that job actually existed! 

I received my professional doula training through ToLabor (The Organization of Labor Assistants for Birth Options and Resources). I also received personal training when I gave birth to my son, Pythagoras, in 2010. It was an attempted home birth which transferred to hospital. This experience taught me to understand and be compassionate for all the varied birthing experiences women may have. I also learned acupressure techniques for pregnancy and labor from a professional acupuncturist. 

 I'm an artsy doula who studied photography and videography for a bachelor's degree: I can take still photos and/or make an edited video documentary of you and your family during pregnancy, birth, and post-partum. Besides birth, my passion is music. Understanding the rhythm of life, I am in the process of becoming a "Music Doula," offering live/recorded music for pregnancy and labor, bringing mothers in-tune with their unique birth song.
